A perched village over the Arc valley
Ventabren is a classic Provençal hilltop village, crowned by the ruins of Queen Joan’s castle. Fourteen kilometres west of Aix-en-Provence, its lanes were used as a real-life set for an episode of the French TV series Les Cinq Dernières Minutes in 1959. The church of Saint-Denis stands at the heart of the village, and the thousand-year-old hermitage of Saint-Honorat hints at a long religious past.
Nineteen kilometres of open sky
The airport is only 17 km away as the crow flies; by road it is 19 km, around 23 minutes. Your driver waits in arrivals with your name on a board and drops you as close to your address as the village lanes allow. Indicative fares: €30 in Eco, €40 in a Sedan and €50 in a van, tolls and luggage included, with no weekend supplement.
Save time for Roquefavour
Keep an hour for the Roquefavour aqueduct, said to be the largest stone aqueduct in the world: three tiers of arches, 393 metres long and 82 metres high. You can book a drop at the aqueduct, then a separate ride to the airport at the same fare. In the village itself the streets are narrow, so your driver will stop at the nearest point a car can reach.
Good to know about Ventabren
The Roquefavour aqueduct was built between 1842 and 1847 by engineer Jean François Mayor de Montricher, aged just 26, to carry water from the Durance to Marseille. The Ventabren viaduct on the Mediterranean high-speed line also lies within the commune.
