Half town, half countryside
At 6,892 hectares, almost 4,000 of them natural land, Lançon-Provence is one of the largest communes in the département. It is split into three settlements, the town centre, Les Baïsses and Sibourg, around eight kilometres apart. The old centre keeps traces of the Baux family’s castle and its three rings of walls, 17th- and 18th-century mansion doorways and the church of Saint-Cyr-et-Sainte-Julitte, restored between 2018 and 2020.
Check which part of Lançon
The drive is 19 km, about 23 minutes. Before you book, check which area your address is in: the centre, Les Baïsses and Sibourg are some distance apart. The fare is the same across the commune: €30 in Eco, €36 in a saloon, €50 in a van. Your driver tracks your flight and waits in the arrivals hall with a name board.
Estates, trails and wine tools
Many visitors come for the large wine and olive estates, some of them internationally known. At Château Virant, the Robert-Cheylan museum displays a collection of winegrowers’ tools. Walkers have four marked routes covering 37.8 km of paths. The return to the airport costs the same, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours ahead. Any estate can be your drop-off address.
Good to know about Lançon-Provence
The Constantine site, dating from the 2nd century BC, is described as the largest Celto-Ligurian hillfort in Provence; it lies on private land. Along the northern edge of the commune runs nine kilometres of the old Roman Via Aurelia, where two milestones can still be seen.
