Life on the north side of the Étoile

Saint-Savournin sits at the eastern end of the Étoile range, topped locally by the Tête du Grand-Puech at 778 m. Homes are all on the northern slope, looking across to Montagne Sainte-Victoire, while the southern side towards Marseille is left wild, including the striking red ground of the Aire de la Moure. The D7 runs through the village centre, and smaller quarters string out along the roads towards Gréasque and La Valentine, a hamlet with its own square, fountain and chapel.

A 32 km run from the terminal

From Marseille Provence Airport it is 32 km by road, usually about 29 minutes. Your driver watches your actual landing time and waits for you in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign; the first hour of waiting is free. The indicative fare is per vehicle, with tolls and luggage included: €51 Eco, €61 Sedan, €85 8-seater van. Evening and Sunday journeys are charged at the same rate.

Addresses and winter weather

Houses here are spread across many small quarters, such as Les Rampauds, Les Timots, L’Adrech or Les Maisons-Neuves, so a full address helps your driver go straight to the door. If you travel in winter, expect colder conditions than in Marseille: frost is common and snow is not unusual, even though the city is only a few kilometres away as the crow flies. Neighbouring Cadolive, Gréasque, Mimet and Peypin are served in the same way.

Good to know about Saint-Savournin

The commune covers 589 hectares around the Étoile range. A quarter of the land, on the southern side, has no inhabitants. La Valentine is a village in its own right, with a community hall and a traditional social club.
