Where the Durance used to flow

Twelve million years ago the Durance ran through here on its way to the sea. The Lamanon plain fills its old valley, and the gap the river carved is still a key route between the Durance valley and the Étang de Berre. The village of about 2,100 people is framed by the Eyguières hills, an outlier of the Alpilles, the Alleins hills and the slopes of Roquerousse. Local farms produce AOC olive oil from the Vallée des Baux-de-Provence and Alpilles country wine.

About 33 minutes to the edge of the Alpilles

From Marseille Provence Airport the journey is 39 km and takes around 33 minutes. Lamanon sits close to the A7 motorway, which even has a rest area named after the village. The indicative price per vehicle includes tolls and luggage: €62 Eco, €74 Sedan, €103 van, with no night or weekend surcharge. Your driver follows your flight and waits in the arrivals hall with a name sign, and the first hour is free.

Tastings and the blues

More and more wine and olive estates around here offer tastings, so if you are staying at one, give its exact address. Lamanon also hosts Lam’ du Blues, one of the highlights of the Alpilles festival, which has welcomed internationally known musicians. When you leave, the trip back to the airport costs the same as the outward journey. Sénas, Alleins, Aurons and Eyguières are neighbours.

Good to know about Lamanon

Lamanon has a railway station on the Zou! regional line between Marseille and Avignon, via Salon-de-Provence and Cavaillon. A hydroelectric plant using Durance water has operated here since 1979. The EDF canal, which leaves the Durance at Mallemort, crosses the commune towards the Étang de Berre.
