A village shaped by water

Three springs, the Borme, the Gilouse and Font-Vieille, gave Eyguières its name, and fountains still punctuate its lanes and squares. The local motto even claims that water makes you beautiful. The village rests against the southern foothills of the Alpilles, inside the regional nature park, and lives from olive oil of the Baux valley, Alpilles country wine and a tourism built around guest houses, Provençal markets and walking. With luck, hikers may spot the protected Bonelli’s eagle in the hills.

From Marignane to the Alpilles

It is about 47 km from the terminal, roughly 42 minutes on the road. The fare covers the whole vehicle: €75 in Eco, €89 in a Sedan and €125 in a van, with tolls and luggage included and no extra charge for a midnight arrival or a Sunday. Your driver checks your flight’s progress and meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign. An hour of free waiting after landing gives you time to collect your bags.

Walking up to the Opies tower

The Opies tower, on the highest point of the Alpilles, stands within the commune, so many guests drop their bags first and set off on foot later. Nearby Aureille, Lamanon, Sénas and Eygalières are easy to combine during a stay. On departure day the drive to the airport costs the same as the outward trip; book it as soon as you know your flight time, since cancellation is free up to 24 hours ahead.

Good to know about Eyguières

Eyguières has an 11th-century chapel dedicated to Saint Vérédème and the ruins of the Gallo-Roman villa of Saint-Pierre de Vence. Besides its springs, the village is watered by the Craponne canal and the Baux valley canal.
