From Saint-Victor’s monks to fighter jets
Saint-Victoret takes its name from the monks of Saint-Victor Abbey in Marseille, who founded it around 965 on land then belonging to Marignane. Today it is a small town with aviation in its blood. The municipal Aviation Museum, opened in 2006, brings together firefighting aircraft, helicopters and fighter planes. In the centre, the 19th-century church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens tells the story of its patron saint in the stained glass of its side aisles.
Barely six kilometres from arrivals
The drive covers 6 km and takes about 8 minutes, so you will hardly have time to check your messages. Your driver meets you in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name, loads your luggage and drops you at the door. Fares are per vehicle and indicative: around €30 in Eco, €40 in a Sedan or €50 in an 8-seater van, tolls included, whatever time your plane touches down.
A Canadair on stilts
The firefighters’ memorial, unveiled in 2008, is hard to miss: a Canadair CL-215 water bomber and an Alouette III helicopter stand raised on pillars beside a carved pilot at the controls. Paired with the nearby museum, it makes a short, memorable stop for children before or after a flight. Staying in neighbouring Gignac-la-Nerthe or Vitrolles instead? Booking works exactly the same way.
Good to know about Saint-Victoret
The old château was pulled down in 2009 and the new town hall built on the site, where a nativity scene is set up every year. On Pas-des-Broquettes hill a cross looks out over the Étang de Berre plain, as if to greet travellers arriving by air.
