A village on the lagoon

On the shore of the Étang de Berre, between Miramas and Salon-de-Provence, Saint-Chamas lies in a stretch untouched by industry. It has grown without losing its character: a classic Provençal centre, traditional festivals and a Saturday morning market. Its heritage includes the church of Saint-Léger, listed in 1957, and the 18th-century Roquette bridge over the Touloubre. Two protected sites, Les Palous and La Poudrerie, draw birdwatchers.

Half an hour around the lagoon

From the airport you follow the Étang de Berre for 26 km, about 30 minutes. The fare is set when you book and covers the whole vehicle: €41 in Eco, €49 in a saloon, €64 in a van. Your driver tracks your flight and waits with a name board in arrivals, with an hour of free waiting after landing. Tolls and luggage are included.

Arriving on a Saturday morning

The Saturday market fills the centre, so if you arrive then, give a precise address and the driver will find the best place to stop. Saint-Chamas station, served by regional TER trains, connects you onward to other towns in the area. Cornillon-Confoux and Miramas are next door, and the ride back to the airport costs the same. Free cancellation runs up to 24 hours ahead.

Good to know about Saint-Chamas

The Pont Flavien, built in the 1st century, spans the Touloubre at the entrance to town and has been a listed monument since 1840. The railway viaduct on the Avignon–Marseille line, which also crosses the Touloubre, was listed in 1984.
