A hamlet under a wall of rock

With just 126 residents, Saint-Antonin-sur-Bayon is the smallest commune in the Bouches-du-Rhône and in the Aix-Marseille metropolitan area. The village rests on a small plateau ringed by ridges and valleys, beneath the steep southern face of Montagne Sainte-Victoire, and the Bayon stream runs through it from east to west. The limestone mountain is full of fossils, including dinosaur eggs. The château, whose façade was listed in 1978, and the Church of Saint-Antonin form the heart of the village.

42 km to the mountain

From Marseille Provence Airport the journey is 42 km and takes around 39 minutes. The fare is for the whole vehicle, with tolls and luggage included: around €67 Eco, €80 Sedan, €111 8-seater van, and no surcharge at night or at weekends. Your driver follows your flight and waits in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name, and the first hour of waiting is free.

Bring supplies, then walk

There is no shopping street here: the village is mostly a starting point for Sainte-Victoire, the Maurély dolmen or traces of the Saint-Antonin aqueduct. Bring water and food with you and give the exact address of your cottage or trailhead. For a day’s walking, book an outbound and a return journey, each with its own price. Beaurecueil, Rousset, Châteauneuf-le-Rouge and Vauvenargues are neighbours.

Good to know about Saint-Antonin-sur-Bayon

The Saint-Antonin aqueduct, 12 km long and mostly underground, starts in the commune. The Maurély dolmen, of the Provençal type, has a burial chamber 4.3 m long. The Bayle commandery is also part of the local heritage.
