Two villages among the pines

This commune has two centres, La Bédoule and Roquefort, spread over 31 km² of which more than half are pine-clad hills between 185 and 563 m. In the Middle Ages the village stood on a rocky ridge; in the 17th century its people moved down to found today’s Roquefort. Look out for the church of Sainte-Roseline in La Bédoule, the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste built in 1734 in Roquefort, the Château de Julhans and the rocky site known as the Petite-Sainte-Baume.

Forty-one minutes from arrivals

The journey is about 50 km and takes around 41 minutes. The fare covers the whole vehicle: about €72 in Eco, €86 in a Sedan or €119 in an 8-seater van, including tolls and luggage, with no night or weekend surcharge. Your driver tracks your flight’s real arrival time and waits in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name. There is an hour of free waiting after landing, so baggage delays are covered.

La Bédoule or Roquefort?

The two parts of the commune are quite separate, so say which one you need when booking. Ceyreste, Carnoux-en-Provence, Gémenos and Cuges-les-Pins are the neighbouring communes, and from the hills you can glimpse the coast around Cassis and La Ciotat. Going home, the airport transfer costs the same as the way in, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pick-up.

Good to know about Roquefort-la-Bédoule

From the Montounier, the highest point, the view stretches over the bay of Marseille, the calanques and the bays of Cassis and La Ciotat as far as Cap Sicié. The local rock gave its name to the Bedoulian, a geological stage defined in 1888, which once fed quarries and cement works. The chapel of Saint-André, first recorded in 1143, is a listed monument.
