A valley town near the coast

Carnoux-en-Provence lies east of Marseille, with Aubagne to the north and Cassis to the south, surrounded by hills that extend the Saint-Cyr range. The town follows a deep valley running south-west to north-east, and most homes face the sun on its north-west slope; about a third of the land is forest. Many arrivals are visiting family, while others head for the Carpiagne military camp, partly within the commune and home to the Foreign Legion’s 1st Cavalry Regiment.

About 47 km door to door

Allow roughly 37 minutes for the 47 km drive. The fare is set per vehicle when you book: €75 in Eco, €89 in a Sedan or €125 in a van. Tolls and luggage are included, and night or weekend arrivals cost the same. Your driver follows your flight and waits for you in the arrivals hall with your name on a sign. You also get an hour of free waiting after landing, so there is no need to rush through baggage reclaim.

Combining Carnoux with Cassis

Carnoux borders Roquefort-la-Bédoule, Ceyreste, Gémenos and La Penne-sur-Huveaune, and Cassis is just to the south. If you are visiting relatives before moving on to the coast, give both addresses when booking so the price reflects the real route. The journey back to the airport is charged at the same rate as the outward one, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before pick-up.

Good to know about Carnoux-en-Provence

The church of Notre-Dame-d’Afrique holds a Black Madonna, a copy of the one in the Algiers basilica; every 15 August it is carried in procession to the cross above the town, which faces Sidi Ferruch in Algeria. The Lyon architect Tony Garnier spent his retirement here.
