A town shaped by canals

Port-de-Bouc grew up at the mouth of the Caronte canal, the channel linking the Étang de Berre with the Gulf of Fos and the Mediterranean. The Arles-to-Bouc canal, opened in 1834, also ends here. This town of around 15,800 people has a strong shipbuilding heritage. Visitors come for the Moralès museum, which shows 600 metal sculptures across 5,000 m², the Church of Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Voyage and the Pourra regional nature reserve.

Airport to quayside in under half an hour

Port-de-Bouc is 33 km from Marseille Provence Airport, about 27 minutes by car. Indicative prices per vehicle, the same by day or night: €53 Eco, €63 Sedan, €87 van, with tolls and luggage included. Your driver tracks your flight live and waits in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name. The first hour after you land is free.

The fort that is not in Port-de-Bouc

One thing catches visitors out: despite its name, the Fort de Bouc stands in neighbouring Martigues, not in Port-de-Bouc itself. If that is where you want to go, use the Martigues address when you book. Fos-sur-Mer and Saint-Mitre-les-Remparts are also close by. When it is time to fly home, the return to the airport costs the same as the outward trip, and you can cancel free of charge up to 24 hours ahead.

Good to know about Port-de-Bouc

Port-de-Bouc is home to one of the last canneries preparing Martigues botargo, the local cured fish roe. Since October 2022 the town has been twinned with Kalymnos, a Greek island in the Dodecanese. A late 17th-century statue of Christ here is a listed historic monument.
