A castle festival and a summer lake

Every April, the Fête du Roy René fills the grounds of Peyrolles’ listed castle, drawing 30,000 visitors in 2023. The town lies in the Durance valley between the Luberon and Mont Sainte-Victoire, in the north-east of the Bouches-du-Rhône, right on the Vaucluse border. In summer, families head to Plantain lake, a 78-hectare site run by the Pays d’Aix, with a paddling pool for under-sixes, four playgrounds, beach volleyball courts, pétanque pitches and table tennis.

49 km to the Durance valley

Expect around 49 km and 47 minutes by road. The fare is per vehicle and agreed upfront: €78 in Eco, €93 in a Sedan or €130 in a van, including tolls and luggage, with no extra charge at night or at weekends. Your driver keeps an eye on your flight and meets you in the arrivals hall with a name sign. If bags are slow to appear, relax: the first hour after landing is free waiting time.

Coming for the King René festival

The festival weekend in April brings big crowds to the castle, so book early and give a precise drop-off address. If you are staying in a guest room on the Réal Plantain peninsula, mention it too. Neighbouring towns are Jouques, Meyrargues, Venelles and La Bastidonne. Your return to the airport is booked at the same indicative fare as the journey in, and cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pick-up.
