Capital of the Provence coalfield

Fifteen kilometres south of Aix-en-Provence and 25 km north of Marseille, Gardanne is the geographic, administrative and historic heart of the Provence mining basin. The land is a series of small stepped plateaus divided by the river Luynes, known locally as the Saint-Pierre. Industry is still present: the alumina plant, founded in 1893, is the only one in France producing alumina from bauxite.

At the centre of the motorway network

Gardanne sits in the middle of a motorway web, the A51, A8, A7, A52 and A55, all a few minutes away via the D 7 and D 6. From the airport the drive is 29 km and takes around 23 minutes. Indicative fares: €46 in Eco, €55 in a Sedan, €77 in a van, tolls included. Your driver tracks the flight and waits in the arrivals hall.

Business parks and rail links

The town has five main business parks: Morandat, Bompertuis, Avon in Biver, La Palun and Novactis. For a meeting, add the company name and park to be dropped at the right entrance. Gardanne also has trains to Marseille Saint-Charles and Aix-en-Provence. Mimet and Bouc-Bel-Air are neighbours and can be booked the same way. The trip back to the airport costs the same, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before.

Good to know about Gardanne
