Hilltop village and the hamlet of Calas

Cabriès sits among hills between the Arbois plateau and the Étoile range. Its main village stands on a peak 250 metres up, fully exposed to the mistral, while the hamlet of Calas gathers around its church of Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption. In the village, the church of Sainte-Marie-de-la-Nativité has been a listed monument since 2012, and the 10th-century chapel of Saint-Raphaël is the oldest church in Cabriès.

Twenty-one kilometres, twenty-one minutes

The journey is straightforward: 21 km and roughly 21 minutes. Your driver meets you in arrivals with a name board, takes your luggage and drops you in the village, in Calas or on any residential street. Fixed fares: €34 in Eco, €40 in a saloon, €53 in a van. Tolls are included and there is no night or weekend surcharge.

Windy on the peak

High and exposed, the old village has hot, dry summers but cold winters, so bring an extra layer if you arrive in the cooler months. The château hosts a permanent exhibition of the painter Edgar Mélik alongside the Gallo-Roman finds made in the commune. Bouc-Bel-Air and Les Pennes-Mirabeau are next door and can be booked the same way. The return to the airport is the same price.

Good to know about Cabriès

Half of Aix-en-Provence TGV station lies within Cabriès, as does a third of the Plan-de-Campagne retail zone. Horses play a special role here, with several riding centres and the national racing school (AFASEC).
